TdF Aero Blog - Stage 15
If you saw the end of Stage 15 in 2021 you witnessed a heart-breaking, losing effort to overcome an aero problem. Over the top of the penultimate climb Guillaume Martin, then 2nd in GC, let a small gap open off the back of his leading group. Jersey flapping in the wind left open from the climb he chased for several Ks but could not get back on. It was hard to watch. His open jersey was like a parachute in the wind, and even with a tremendous effort he just fell farther and farther back, dropping from 2nd to 9th that day and finishing well off the podium.

At the top echelons of sport an aero deficiency can really cost you, especially in a race. Competitive aero is absolutely critical to cycling performance.

What if instead of being disadvantaged he'd been equal with the rest of his group? Or, what if he was actually more aero than the rest? His Tour may have turned out much differently.

Special shout out and Congrats to Colorado's Sepp Kuss for winning Stage 15 of Le Tour. Allez, Allez!
